Thank you, GameSpot!

Just as a little backstory, I like videogames. Now that that’s out of the way, I have to say I just received the stupidest email ever from GameSpot. In said email I was offered the chance to watch (for four hours, no less) somebody play the new Lord of the Rings MMO. This is a game that I’m moderately interested in (though I’d probably just get back into WoW first), but have we (and by we I mean gamers) fallen so far that this is viable? Wouldn’t you rather, I don’t know, actually play the game?

I’ve spent plenty of time watching friends playing videogames. But that works because you have someone to interact with, make fun of when they do something stupid, offer ideas up if they get stuck. With this all you’re doing is watching someone that you don’t even know play an MMO (which are great to play, but are ridiculously boring to watch someone play). Oh look! He’s resting so he can recover his HP! Now he’s off to find and kill 10 Giant Rats!

If this is something you are considering doing, I have a few words of advice: Wipe the Cheeto dust off your fingers, finish off that last can of Red Bull, and ask your mom if you can go outside. Man, that came off a lot meaner than I had planned on my first post being.
