I’ve had the opportunity this past month to give the Xbox360 COD4 multiplayer beta a test run. Just like the Halo 3 beta, this one was highly polished. There is a ranking system that actually rewards you for experience by letting you modify weapons, customize appearance, and tweak perks. Perks are for lack of a better term power ups. Some examples of this would be longer sprinting, drop a grenade at death, faster reloads, and many many more. This leaves limit less character options. You are also given bonuses during matches based on kills. Get 3 frags in a row and a UAV will give you radar support. If you can manage even more kills you’ll be rewarded with air support via chopper or jets dropping bombs. The graphics are very realistic with lots of detail in terrain and character models. The beta was alot of fun, well thought out, and balanced. I can’t think of anything else that I would add.
Just recently Infinity Ward released a singleplayer demo. This featured a stage taking play in the middle east city and really shows off the intense firefights the COD series is known for. The night vision effect shows weapons laser guides crowding the screen. The pacing is insane with no rest at any point. One play though this demo will convince any military FPS fan that this is a sure buy. This one is already on preorder for me!
Release Date: 5 Nov 07
Meh. I’m waiting for Call of Duty DS.
Of course. That will be the best, most fully featured version…well, at least I get your humor, Artie.
Thanks Hans… It’s really hard to detect sarcasm on the interwebz.
