In a pairing no one thought possible, Nintendo and Rockstar Games games are teaming up to make Mario Theft Auto for the 360 and PS3. Along with the earlier announcement today that Nintendo went software, Creator of Mario, Shigero Miyamoto had this to say regarding the new direction of the Mario franchise:
Shigero Miyamoto: “Given the new platforms available, I thought it was time to let Mario mature a bit. These systems are very competitive, and games are more edgy. Mario needs to follow suit if he is to keep up.”
The story follows the adventures of Mario as he joins the Italian mob and “cleans a few dirty pipes in town”. The game will sport full on kart theft, drive by turtle shellings, and drug dealing via shrooms. More details to follow.
Sweet. I can just see it now. Mario rolls up to Donkey Kong’s car and jacks him in the face and drives off. Then Mario and Peach go do a driveby shelling at Luigi’s place.
