In a surprising move today, Nintendo’s CEO Saturu Iwota announced at a press conference that the Wii will no longer be manufactured because the company will start focusing efforts on game development. “Nintendo has been a profitable company with both games and hardware platforms. The profit margin on hardware just doesn’t exist like it used to.” Apparently Nintendo will go the way of Atari and Sega by focusing on carrying their software line to different hardware platforms. This opens up things like Zelda online play on the Xbox live platform, Multiplayer Metroid, and a few other things. A sad day indeed in the gaming world.

A sad day, indeed. Perhaps this will work out better for them, though. Mario Theft Auto sounds pretty cool, and I hear a new Zelda Final Fantasy cross over is in the works, as well!
